Modern systems like Alula, Prima, 2 GIG, honeywell use encrypted radio frequencies to connect sensors (on doors, windows, and walls) to a central hub or panel. This hub/panel communicates with the monitoring center and your smartphone using both your Wi-Fi and a cellular backup.
